BLUEPRINT FOR CHANGE

FIT.FAMILY IS DESIGNED TO UNCOVER A FAMILY’S POTENTIAL TO LEAD THEIR HEALTHIEST LIVES

Perhaps it’s the family of a teen who is struggling with his or her weight and body image, or a family who simply feels like they’ve tried everything to make positive lifestyle changes and are desperate to get healthy …together.

Fit.Family is to help a family create a sustaining blueprint for change. Each week for 8, 10 or 12 weeks, twice per week, families will be paired with their own coach that will not only introduce them to all types of fitness opportunities, but will engage them in conversations about eating, changing behaviors and supporting one another. There will also be homework assignments that test and strengthen them, appropriately building in difficulty and skill level as they advance through the program.  The more they develop and grow, – the easier it will be to sustain their behavior changes over the long term and create a new way of life.

A cornerstone of this program is the integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as it is known that our thoughts and feelings play a fundamental role in our behaviors.  Each family will participate in weekly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy calls with Margaret Taylor. Margaret is the clinical counselor for Louie’s Kids and her experience includes helping families identify and overcome educational issues, trauma, loss, and relationship challenges. She helps individuals and families build a plan for better emotional and physical health and empowers them to cope with challenges in positive ways.  The Blueprint for Change.

HOW IT WORKS

LK Fit.Family Coaching

4 coaches

1-2 families each

8, 10, 12 weeks

2 calls with a therapist per week

2 groups of 6

Each call lasts 30 minUTES

THE PROGRAM

We start with 2 families per coach. They meet twice a week at the coaches’ place of choice (park, gym, spin class, etc.).  We can work out rates at Gold’s/Planet Fitness/Pivotal if this aligns with the family’s goals and overall needs.  Some families may already have gym memberships that they simply don’t utilize enough for various reasons. The goal would be to take advantage of the resources and tools that each family may already have in place, and make additions as we see a specific need or want. Coach and families set ground rules (times, weather, attendance etc).

Once per week for an hour 2 families each call in for a group therapy conference call with Margaret. For example, Families A team to call in on Tuesdays and Families B team would call on Thursdays.

Groups can compete for prizes throughout the program like best-timed mile group gets tickets to the Riverdogs, etc.

The end result is the accomplishment of the specific goal each team has set, as well as the creation of a solid foundation on which to build a lasting healthy behavior change.
